Trafalgar Square to host Jesus crucifixion re-enactment
Nelson’s Column
Lord Nelson will watch over the ‘crucifixion’

London’s Trafalgar Square will host a vast outdoor performance of the Passion of Christ, it has been announced.

Thousands are expected to watch as more than 100 actors from Bramley, Surrey, play out Christ’s trial and execution on Good Friday, 2 April.

Organisers say the free central London event will give a “unique” taste of being in Jerusalem on the first Good Friday as crowds bayed for blood.

Writer and producer Peter Hutley has the support of Christian groups.

He said: “I hope the play will bring faith in Christ to those who don’t know about him, remind those who do and develop faith as the greatest gift that mankind can have.”

The Roman Catholic Archbishop of Westminster, the Most Reverend Vincent Nichols, said: “I am delighted people from so many Christian denominations will be coming together to remind Londoners why the bank holiday of Good Friday is observed.”
